Major League Baseball has a rare full schedule on a Monday, with 15 total games. The night begins at 6:40 p.m. ET with the Minnesota Twins and Cleveland Guardians meeting at Progressive Field, while the Los Angeles Dodgers and Philadelphia Phillies clash at 7:00 p.m. ET on ESPN. The evening wraps up at 10:00 p.m. ET with the St. Louis Cardinals and Los Angeles Angels beginning a three-game interleague series, also on ESPN. Tommy Edman 2+ Hits + Runs + RBIs (-104)
Edman and the Dodgers head into Philadelphia for a series opener, and they’ll face Phillies All-Star LHP Cristopher Sanchez. Edman went 2-for-4 with three runs scored and two RBI out of the ninth spot of the order in Game 1 on the road against the New York Yankees on Sunday. In Game 2, he came on as a pinch hitter, swatting a solo home run in the top of the eighth inning for the team’s only run and RBI.
Edman has hit safely in eight consecutive games, going 10-for-27 (.370) with nine runs scored, one homer, and five RBI, while posting a .414 on-base percentage and .556 slugging percentage. Against the southpaw Martinez, he is 4-for-16 (.250) with a double, a .313 SLG, and .563 OPS. His numbers against Martinez aren’t great, but he heads in with plenty of momentum.
Jacob Misiorowski To Record 9+ Strikeouts (-153)
Brewers RHP Jacob Misiorowski (10-4, 1.62 ERA, 0.76 WHIP) heads into Monday’s game against the New York Mets rested and raring to go. Prior to the All-Star break, Misiorowski was pushed back due to arm fatigue, and he did not pitch in the All-Star Game, either. Bummer.
But, lack of personal fun and memories are our gain, as he kicks off the series against the Mets after nearly two full weeks of rest. Perhaps he tired his arm out from striking out 21 batters across 12 IP in his past two starts against the St. Louis Cardinals and New York Mets. He has hit double-digit strikeout totals six times in the past 11 starts since May 8. The Mets are middle of the road with 824 strikeouts across 100 games, or 8.24 strikeouts per outing, ranking 16th in the majors. But, the Cardinals are 27th as a team in strikeouts, and Miz made them look silly. Expect plenty of punchies.
Ketel Marte Anytime Home Run (+316)
Athletics LHP Jeffrey Springs (3-9, 6.08 ERA, 1.42 WHIP) has surrendered a Major League high 26 home runs in just 97.2 IP across 19 starts this season. Not good.
The Arizona Diamondbacks have to be licking their chops, getting ready to tee off against the very giving southpaw in the interleague series opener in Phoenix. D-Backs OF Ketel Marte is worth taking a shot on for an Anytime HR for the chance to more than triple up. He is hitting .299 (29-of-97) vs. LHP this season, 55 points higher than against RHP, and he has seven of his homers against southpaws in 97 at-bats, while hitting 10 homers in 287 at-bats vs. RHP. Look for Marte to power up.
Kyle Leahy To Record 5+ Strikeouts (-110)
Cardinals RHP Kyle Leahy (7-4, 3.73 ERA, 1.41 WHIP) gets the start in the interleague series opener against the Los Angeles Angels. The 29-year-old isn’t necessarily a big-time strikeout pitcher, but the Halos could make him look like Nolan Ryan.
The Angels lead the majors with 951 strikeouts across 3,366 at-bats over 100 games, or 9.51 strikeouts per game. Leahy should be in line to get to at least five strikeouts on Monday.
