David Newton on ESPN reports the Panthers signed cornerback Corn Elder off the Giants’ practice squad. Elder was originally drafted by the Panthers in 2017. He is versatile enough to play both nickel and outside corner. (David Newton)

Betting Impact:

This move signaled the fact that the Panthers are nervous about their depth in the secondary. Starting cornerback James Bradberry missed last week’s game with a groin injury, and his status is up in the air for this week. The Panthers need all the secondary help they can get, as face a Falcons team that ranks second in the NFL with 300.9 passing YPG. The fact that the Panthers are banged up in the secondary may be a reason the line has moved from -6.5 to -5.5 recently.
