Panthers running back Christian McCaffrey signed a four-year extension averaging $16M per year. That contract makes him the highest-paid running back in NFL history. McCaffrey was rewarded for his stellar play over the last three years. In 2019, McCaffrey led the league with 403 touches, 2,392 yards from scrimmage and 19 combined rushing and receiving touchdowns. Since 2017, McCaffrey ranks first in the league in scrimmage yards and second in both scrimmage touchdowns and total touches.

Betting Impact:

It will be interesting to see the impact that McCaffrey's contract has on how bettors view his future props. Optimists will point to the fact that McCaffrey has not missed a game in the last two years and will look at his increased productivity each year. Pessimists will point to a new coaching staff and declare that will have a negative impact on McCaffrey's production. In addition, many will point to the contract Ezekiel Elliot signed last year which made him the highest-paid running back at that time. The season after Elliott signed that contract, he saw a decline in both rushing and receiving yards. The over/under for McCaffrey's rushing and receiving yards is 2099.5. In addition, he has odds of +5000 to win the MVP and has the highest odds of any non-quarterback to win the AP NFL Offensive Player of the Year Award at +1300 odds.
